Remember the for-profit health industry only has one work around, don’t get sick. That means don’t need help, don’t need a prescription that insurance companies and manufacturers decide to fight over.
On social media I post a lot of politics and news and I post a lot of family pics/movies/trips but rarely do I tie any of it to anything truly personal. To support a point I’ve made for some time, today I am.
For profit healthcare companies ruled by for profit insurance companies simply must end.
Today I took one of my children to a specialist they’ve seen for years. Checkup was good, all set for another six months, until the doctor informed me of this little fact.
The manufacturer of his prescription and insurance companies are fighting. The manufacturer has basically said to the insurance companies, “We’re not making this available anymore until you agree to work with us.” The insurance companies have basically replied, “This is not our problem, we aren’t making the money we want off this and we’re not budging.”
To make things clear, I think both sides share equal blame under our current systems.
So now my son and millions of others with this particular condition cannot get the most cost-effective and medically effective prescription unless you happen to be covered by the exactly one small insurance carrier with an agreement in place.
In doing some research it would take $5-ish and zero minutes of my time (doctor would call it in) to get this medicine in literally any country in the world with universal healthcare.
Instead I’m now making call after call looking for a provider of programs that offer an equivalent medicine, trying to find one for which he qualifies. No matter which, the cost of the medicine goes up anywhere from 20% to 125%.
That, or I can switch him to another set of medicines which, in a move I’m sure is TOTALLY COINCIDENCE, recently jumped in price from $30/month to $300/month.
My son will get his medicines one way or another, he’s fortunate I can ensure that happens. How many are not in that position? How many will now go without and suffer serious consequences, suffering for the greed of these companies?
The health of a human being is not a commodity to be bought and sold for the highest profit. The age of profit driven healthcare in America is over. It must be.
